Dental Implants
Dental implants are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. The person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything and can smile with confidence, knowing that teeth appear natural and that facial contours will be preserved by the implant. What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants themselves are tiny titanium posts that are placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. The bone grows to the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. In addition, dental implants can help preserve facial structure, preventing the bone deterioration which occurs when teeth are missing.

Replacement Tooth after Dental Implants |
Regain your Smile... Whether it is by accident or disease when a tooth is lost your whole body and mindset is affected. Your own natural teeth are best, but when maintaining them is no longer possible we have lots of options for restoring your smile.
What happens when a tooth is lost?
When one or more teeth are lost the dental arches become unstable; the adjacent teeth move and drift, the teeth in the opposite arch extrude upward or downward into the open spaces, the bite collapses, the face compresses and sinks inward. All of this due to the loss of one or more teeth, and is repairable with a dental implant.
Teeth have many purposes in your mouth
Teeth in a day (or all on 4). This is a newer technique that allows edentulous people to have implant supported teeth on the same day that the implants are placed. Teeth in a day (or all on 4) is a technique originated by Nobel Biocare that uses their specially designed angled abutments to help support the teeth.
Teeth allow us to eat. Lack of chewing function forces the diet to change. We substitute softer foods for the ones that we prefer to eat. Food may be swallowed before it is fully chewed and many nutritional important sources of foods have to be abandoned. Crunchy vegetables and grains are replaced by softer or moistened alternatives.
Teeth create our smiles. They are how we present ourselves to the world. With holes in the smile we look unhealthy to those around us. We often avoid smiling and others may wonder why we are always so unhappy. Heads are dipped when we laugh and you may find a hand rising to your face to cover a smile that does not make you proud.
Teeth support our face. The upper anterior teeth support our lips and cheeks. The lower teeth support the chin and face. Without proper tooth support the lower one-third of the face squeezes closed. The lips roll inward and disappear or look thin and mean.
Teeth support bone.
When teeth are lost, either one or many, the internal stimulation to the bone of the jaw is lost. When this occurs the bone begins to melt and disappear. The adjacent teeth are also supported by this melting bone and eventually may become unstable themselves. This may further on down the line result in the loss of additional teeth.
Teeth prevent pain.
The pressure that a floating removable prosthesis (denture) can place on the bone and soft tissues of the mouth can be severe. Chewing that impacts food against areas of gum tissues can abrade the surface of those tissues and cause localized infections.

After Dental Implants |
Are dental implants new or experimental technology?
NO! NO! NO! The doctors in our practice have been involved in treatment of patients for over thirty years. In the present form of individual dental implants we have been treating patients for twenty years. These implants have successfully provided hundreds and hundreds of patients, with thousands of implants, a solution to their individual needs and desires.
How successful are dental implants?
VERY! The worldwide statistics are that implants have a 94% survival rate at fifteen years and are expected to keep on functioning for years and years. Our office statistics are actually much better than that. Your doctor will be pleased to discuss the way that this will apply to your individual situation.
Are implants for everyone?
Several issues require careful evaluation prior to making that decision. An implant candidate must have healthy gums and proper bone support to allow for the long-term success of their implants. An individuals general health can also influence the implant decision. Although few medical conditions create absolute contraindications to the use of dental implants a few will prohibit their usage. Patients with; uncontrolled diabetes, who are undergoing chemotherapy, smoke heavily or have osteoporosis may not be a candidate for implant placement. Otherwise there are very few medical issues that would prohibit the placement of implants.
How can I find out if dental implants are the proper treatment for me?
Ask for a comprehensive oral evaluation. Only after fully accessing your specific conditions and desires can a proper decision be reached. Together you and your doctor can determine your proper treatment direction.
