Teeth-in-a-Day is the concept providing patients with a fully functioning tooth or multiple teeth on dental implants in one single procedure the same day as implant placement. Despite advertising claiming that this is a new process, IT IS NOT. This technology has been utilized by the Doctors of this practice for more than fifteen years with fabulous success and exceptional results for our patients.
There are two variations of this procedure; with and without computer directed implant placement.
Those patients who have been fortunate enough to have maintained a large amount of jaw bone can have the procedure performed without the added costs of the computer directed process.
Those who have lost significant amounts of bone may still be candidates for the process provided the computer generated radiographic images allow the Doctors to locate adequate supporting bone for the implant placement. The process starts when a CAT scan is taken of the patient's jawbone. This CAT scan allows for the generation of a three-dimensional model of the jawbone that can then be used in virtual reality software to plan the implant placement before physically treating the patient.
Both techniques require several visits of planning and prefabrication of a prosthesis that will be worn by you during the time that the implants are achieving their final healed state. With proper planning this will allow you to have your implants placed and the same day you have a prosthesis placed. The final prosthesis is then fabricated several months later.
If the patient is unfortunate to have fractured a front tooth the entire procedure can be accelerated. The un-restorable root can frequently be removed the same day an implant placed immediately with a provisional restoration placed right away.
Another variation of the Teeth-in-a-Day concept is Teeth-in-an-Hour. This process requires the same type of pre-surgical planning as the teeth in a day and then fabricates a surgical guide that physically directs the placement of the implants through small openings in the gum. In addition, the fabrication of the treatment prosthesis is completed prior to the surgery. Patients can often resume their normal activities the next day. Once the implants are in place prosthesis is fixed directly to the new implants. This benefits the patient in that there is less postoperative discomfort, less swelling and less bruising.
The prosthesis fabricated for all same day placement is frequently utilized only as a provisional prosthesis with the final prosthesis fabricated after final implant healing.
All of these concepts require significant coordination of the Implant Surgeon (who may also be the restorative dentist), The Restorative Dentist and the Dental Laboratory to create a streamline effective experience for you, the patient.
Which of these processes is the correct one for you will depend on a multitude of factors. It would be our pleasure to evaluate you regarding these procedures or any other dental procedure.
