An Introduction to Whole Life Dentistry™ in Cleveland, Ohio

Dentistry for All Stages of Life

Your mouth says a great deal about you without uttering a word. A healthy mouth is free of pain and conditions which alter facial alignment and appearance. A healthy smile is fresh, youthful and endearing. Nature alone cannot guarantee either for anyone.

Our concept of Whole Life Dentistry is maintaining proper dental health during all life stages and continually make a valuable contribution to your physical well-being and appearance. Whole Life Dentistry emphasizes prevention along with timely, conservative treatments; technology working in tandem with nature to achieve optimal results.

The first lifestage:

We believe that it is important to treat our youngest patients in accordance with their youthful frame of reference. We encourage them to be our partners in the care of their teeth by explaining what we can do for them and what they can do for themselves. The objectives are to familiarize children with going to the dentist to build confidence and to establish rapport. As with any facet of education, parental reinforcement at home will help youngsters to establish and maintain healthy habits.

We recommend that children visit our office when they reach three years of age for an examination by one of our dentists to assess the state of their dental growth and development. Potential problems can be detected, and early treatment often makes it possible to avoid or significantly reduce costly alternatives. Included in this visit is a professional cleaning by one of our registered dental hygienists. Since young patients are especially susceptible to decay, we may recommend fluoride or tooth sealants as preventative measures.

The second lifestage:

Teenagers experience rapid physical growth that often requires special dental attention. We believe preventative care, monitoring the growth and alignment of teeth, will help prevent adult tooth loss and facial asymmetry. The onset of gum disease may begin at this life stage, making it important to have a thorough examination, as well as periodic cleanings and x-rays of teeth and gum tissues. For teenagers who are wearing orthodontic braces, a bi-annual or more frequent professional cleaning is also recommended.

It is important to try preventing or minimizing tooth and mouth injuries in our patients who engage in contact sports. We can prescribe and fit teenagers with the appropriate mouth gear.

The third lifestage:

Regular dental check-ups foster a healthy mouth and smile in adulthood and prevent small problems from becoming big ones. Quite often, nature needs an assist from technology when teeth do not mesh properly, when they become stained, chipped or broken, or when gums recede and cause the formation of cavity prone crevices.

TMJ treatments, root canal, crowns, bridges, implants, and cosmetic tooth bonding are all a part of dentistry's armamentarium for restoring the adult mouth to its optimal condition and keeping it there.

The fourth lifestage:

Today, the majority of our senior patients are leading healthier and active lives by continuing to give appropriate attention to dental care. The desire to like the appearance of one's mouth, to feel good about how one looks, does not disappear at a certain age. Advancing age is not necessarily synonymous with tooth loss or having to put up with the discomforts of toothaches, bleeding gums, ill-fitting dentures or mouth sores. All these conditions are preventable and treatable.

Our office also provides dental care for patients who are hospitalized or house-bound. In addition, for those patients who winter in warmer climates, we are always happy to recommend qualified professionals in their area if a dental problem arises.
