Crown Lengthening Procedures are required when insufficient tooth bulk is available to create a stable new crown or other restoration. If it is determined that the edge of your old restoration or the extent of the decay is deep below the gum tissue or too close to the supporting bone this procedure will establish healthy stable tissues for your new restoration.

The procedure involves adjusting the level of the gum tissue and bone around the tooth in question to create a new gum-to–tooth relationship. This allows us to reach the edge of the restoration, ensuring a proper fit and seal to the tooth. It should also provide enough tooth structure so the new restoration will not come loose in the future. This procedure will also allow you to clean the edge of the restoration when you brush and floss to prevent a recurrence of decay and gum disease. Additionally we can even out uneven gum tissue lines that might prevent you from displaying a healthy natural looking smile and create a more balanced esthetic appearance.

The procedure takes approximately one hour and generally can be preformed utilizing only local anesthetic. If you desire oral sedation and/or Nitrous Oxide Analgesia can supplement the local anesthesia.

When the procedure is completed, sutures, and a protective bandage are placed to help secure the new gum-to-tooth relationship. You will need to be seen in one or two weeks to remove the sutures and evaluate your healing.
